OM606 Tuning Guide

Important: The following information is based on personal assessments and experiences and has been compiled to the best of our knowledge and belief. We assume no liability for the accuracy of the information.

In general, ensure there is enough passage in the intake and exhaust tracts at all stages!

Performance level up to approx. 300 HP:

Up to this performance, apart from the turbocharger and the pump control, no major changes to the engine are required. Here are the recommended modifications:

  • Larger turbocharger such as Holset HX35, Garrett GTX2867, BorgWarner S200
  • Original pump (6mm elements): EVRY Mod, chip tuning or switching to Baldur DSL1
  • Switching to a mechanical pump: minimum 6mm elements, enrichment via pressure can or so-called ALDA
  • Useful additional modifications:
    • Have the injectors replaced or overhauled
    • Reinforced injector heat shields
    • Ports of the original exhaust manifold
    • Min. 3 bar MAP sensor

Performance level 300 to 420 HP:

In this performance range, somewhat larger modifications are recommended, with the transition between recommendation and requirement flowing smoothly as performance increases. We recommend the following modifications:

  • Generously ported original exhaust manifold or already upgraded turbo manifold
  • Larger turbocharger such as Holset HX35 Super, Holset HX40, Garrett GTX3076, Garrett G30-660, BorgWarner S200SX-E
  • Pump with larger elements: Mynä-Oy 7mm, Dieselmeken 7.5mm
  • EDC pump with DSL1
  • Mechanical pump with ALDA
  • Reinforced injector heat shields
  • Min. 3 bar MAP sensor
  • Useful additional modifications:
    • Replace or overhaul injection nozzles and adjust to 145-150bar
    • Replace the original nozzle inserts DN0SD310 with larger ones, e.g. DN0SD314 or DN0SD265
    • Installing the intake camshaft from the naturally aspirated engine

Performance level 420 to 540 HP:

Major modifications are recommended in this performance range, with the transition between recommendation and requirement flowing smoothly as performance increases. We recommend the following modifications:

  • Upgrade turbo manifold
  • Large turbochargers such as Holset HX40 Super, Garrett GTX3576, Garrett G30-770, BorgWarner S300
  • Pump with larger elements: Mynä-Oy 8mm, Dieselmeken 7.5mm or 8mm
  • EDC pump with DSL1
  • Mechanical pump with ALDA
  • Reinforced injector heat shields
  • Min. 4 bar MAP sensor
  • Replace or overhaul injection nozzles and adjust to 145-150bar
  • Replace the original nozzle inserts DN0SD310 with larger ones, e.g. DN0SD314 or DN0SD265
  • Aluminum intake manifold
  • Useful additional modifications:
    • Installing the intake camshaft from the naturally aspirated engine
    • Installation of steel connecting rods
    • Installation of stud bolts on the cylinder head
    • Installation of stud bolts on the main storage aisle
    • Enlarge the central overflow channel of the prechamber to relieve the tip
    • Porting the inlet and outlet channels
    • Stronger valve springs from the CDI engines

Performance level from 540 HP upwards:

In this performance range, modifications are recommended to make the engine stable even at 600 HP, with the transition between recommendation and requirement flowing smoothly along increasing performance. We recommend the following modifications:

  • Upgrade turbo manifold
  • Large turbochargers such as Holset HX50 MFS, Garrett GTX3582, Garrett G35-880, BorgWarner S300SX
  • Pump with larger elements: Mynä-Oy 8mm, Dieselmeken 8mm, Tomnik 8.5mm
  • Mechanical pump with ALDA
  • Reinforced injector heat shields
  • Replace or overhaul injection nozzles and adjust to 145-150bar
  • Replace the original nozzle inserts DN0SD310 with larger ones, e.g. DN0SD314 or DN0SD265
  • Aluminum intake manifold
  • Installing the intake camshaft from the naturally aspirated engine
  • Installation of steel connecting rods
  • Installation of stud bolts on the cylinder head
  • Installation of stud bolts on the main storage aisle
  • Enlarge the central overflow channel of the prechamber to relieve the tip
  • Stronger valve springs from the CDI engines
  • Useful additional modifications:
    • Porting the inlet and outlet channels
    • For water injection: weld the gap between the impact ball insert and the antechamber
    • Copper sealing ring between prechamber and cylinder head
