A basic and important measure if you want to increase the performance of your Mercedes OM604, OM605 or OM606 engine is to install reinforced heat shields to protect the injectors.
The original heat shields (A6010170060) are relatively thin and have a large bore, as they were introduced in this form in 1983 with the OM601 and were adopted from that time. This makes the nozzle insert of the injector vulnerable to excessive heat. “Glow-through” of the nozzle inserts is not uncommon and can have serious consequences for the engine.
With these special, reinforced heat shields from the manufacturer Elring, you can take appropriate precautions and protect your injectors even at extremely increased performance.
